Things To Know Before You Go
Drink Water
You tend to lose water and sodium as your body acclimatizes to altitude, and this leads to dehydration. Staying hydrated also helps with potential altitude sickness, so drink a lot of water before and during your trip!
Acli-Mate
Acli-Mate is a natural sport drink specifically formulated in Colorado to aid with the symptoms of altitude sickness and to meet the needs of travelers heading to higher-altitude destinations. You can purchase this at the stores on the mountain and in town.
Altitude Affects Alcohol Intake
Some studies have shown that alcohol does have a more powerful effect on the body at higher elevations. Please drink responsibly!
When traveling (especially in higher altitudes), we suggest taking the following:
Eyedrops
Lip Balm
Lotion
Bug spray
Sunscreen
For those having some trouble with the altitude, we suggest taking a quick trip to the local oxygen bar!
The Sea Level Spa off Elk Avenue, in downtown Crested Butte, provides oxygen to help visitors overcome the effects of high altitude. They also offer massages and reflexology. They are open 7 days a week from 10:00am to 8:00pm.
